WHILE West Indies may have won the second One-Day International against hosts South Africa on Saturday at Buffalo Park in East London, they still need to improve their run rate.
This is the view of cricket analyst Fazeer Mohammed in an interview with AZP News on Sunday.
He said it was going to be a challenge for the Caribbean side to perform well in the 2023 World Cup.
Mohammed said while West Indies captain Shai Hope chalked up an unbeaten century, the concern would be his rate of scoring runs. He said Hope’s strike rate is 75 per hundred balls while a run-a-ball was needed at that level of the game.
West Indies won the game by 43 runs with Hope reaching his 14th ODI ton with 128 not out off 115 balls.
Alzarri Joseph with three for 53 and Akeal Hosein claiming 3 for 59 were the picks of the West Indies bowlers.
Temba Bavuma top scored in the match but his 144 was not enough to give South Africa victory.
The two teams meet again on Tuesday for the third and final ODI after the first one was washed away due to rain.
Then they play three T20 Internationals.
