A 37-YEAR-old contractor who allegedly failed to deliver on work that was already paid for has been charged with fraudulent conversion.
Roger Mohammed, of California, was granted bail with surety in the sum of $65,000 by Justice of the Peace Boodlal Balkaran, after being charged with fraudulent conversion totalling $32,000.
He is scheduled to appear at the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court on December 14, a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Thursday stated.
According to police reports, a Gasparillo man reported that between October 28, 2016 and May 18, 2019, he allegedly paid sums totalling $39,000 cash, as down payment to a contractor towards the supply, construction and installation of teak kitchen cupboards and granite counter tops.
The works were scheduled to be completed by March 2017, however, to date the project has not started.
PC Sooroojpaul of the Fraud Squad Office, San Fernando conducted enquiries into this report, and Mohammed was detained and subsequently charged.
The investigation was spearheaded by Supt Ruben and supervised by acting Insp Seepersad and Cpl Lewis in the Central Division.
