AN online petition has begun to have Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar removed from the Parliament.
The reason: For telling Housing Minister Camille Robinson-Regis that her name belongs to that of a slave master.
The petition at change.org began on Friday following Persad-Bissessar’s statements on Thursday and a counteractive one from the People’s National Movement (PNM) National Women’s League on Friday.
The petition states, “The Opposition Leader, Mrs. Kamla Sushila Persad-Bissessar, recently stated on a political platform in Trinidad and Tobago “At least I have a name from my ancestors. Where you got yours from? Your name is that of a slave master!
“Racism has no place in our country, ‘where every creed and race finds an equal place.’ She needs to go. And everyone who shares her racist views need to get a clear message that this behaviour will not be tolerated in Trinidad and Tobago. It ends now.”
