PORT-OF-SPAIN – BARBADOS Tridents have moved into second place in the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League standings beating Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) by seven wickets with two balls to spare at the Queen’s Park Oval on Wednesday evening.

It means that TKR will have to beat the thus far unbeatable Guyana Amazon Warriors in Guyana on Friday to be second in the standings.

The Warriors take on bottom of the table Jamaica Tallawahs in Providence on Thursday.

First and second places play in the knockout stages with the winner going into the finals. The loser gets a second bit at the cherry having to play the winner of the third and fourth places to get into the finals.

On Wednesday TKR won the toss and elected to bat putting on 134/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Lendl Simmons top scored with 60 from 45 balls and was the only bright spark of the TKR batting.

Colin Munro (23), Kieron Pollard (20) and Denesh Ramdin (18) were the only other batsmen to get into double figures.

The Tridents bowlers kept it tight with Harry Gurney two wickets for 14 runs in his four overs the pick of the bowlers and a well-deserved Player of the Match award.

In their turn at the crease, Johnson Charles continued his fine form for the Tridents franchise with a 55 from 47 balls that included five fours and two sixes.

Alex Hales made his highest score for the season with 33 before he became Mark Deyal’s maiden wicket in the CPL.

The Tridents needed seven runs in the last over that Pollard bowled and Ashley Nurse and JP Duminy saw them home with two balls to spare.
