THE Beetham landfill has been partially re-opened as of 5 am on Monday after two fires at the facility last week.
In a release on Sunday, the Solid Waste Management Company (SWMCOL) stated that the landfill was reopened for municipal waste only.
However, due to the residual smoke on the western end of the facility, the faecal pond will remain closed to facilitate further work in that area.
SWMCOL has since thanked stakeholders for their patience during the battle with the fires, and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
The fire broke out on Wednesday which was shortly contained but later spread into Friday at the Wastewater Treatment Pond, and which created hazardous levels of air quality around Port of Spain.
