PEOPLE are being warned to stay away from the mud volcano in Piparo after increased volcanic activity was reported on Saturday.
There were reports of cracks along the roadway and one property was damaged.
At a news conference at his Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain office on Sunday, National Security Minster Stuart Young said, “There was no explosion of the volcano last night (Saturday).
“There was one house that was affected. That house has now been cordoned off.
“The authorities are there on the ground. I got an update from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
“They are monitoring the volcano and we are asking that persons not go to see the volcano.”
There was a major eruption of the volcano in 1997.
