THE son of the owner of the company contracted to do the maintenance work on a sea line of Paria Fuel Trading Company is one of four missing divers.
The divers went missing after five of them were sucked in while doing work on an underwater line around 3 pm on Friday. One of them Christopher Boodram was rescued and is being treated at the San Fernando General Hospital.
The other men are Fyzal Kurban, Rishi Naggassar, Yusuf Henry and Kazam Ali, Jr, who is the son of Kazam Ali the owner of LMCS.
A second release on the incident by Paria on Saturday afternoon stated that an operation was ongoing regarding the missing men.
Minister Energy and Energy Industries Stuart Young spoke to families of the missing men at Paria officers at Pointe-a-Pierre on Saturday.
Oilfield Workers Trade Union (OWTU) president general Ancel Roget, who was also at Pointe-a-Pierre, said the Paria officials were more concerned about covering their tracks than rescuing the workers.
He said the families of the trapped workers were not getting any information.
Roget called on the authorities to allow the union to go inside ensure that the proper procedures were being followed.
OWTU was the main union representing Petrotrin which was closed down. Paria is one of the companies that replaced Petrotrin and provides refined fuel to Trinidad and Tobago.
Reports indicated that workers were sucked in a “vortex” around 3 pm on Friday.
