THE collapsed roadway at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Oasis Greens development in Chaguanas will be repaired by the end of March.
This is the assurance being given by Housing Minister Pennelope Beckles.
Speaking in the Senate on Tuesday, Beckles admitted that due to several issues, the repairs were taking longer than expected.
She said, “The situation is being rectified and the works completed at the Oasis Greens Housing Development so far are one; excavation of roadway to 15 to 17 feet deep, removal and replacement of damaged sewer lines, backfilling, preparation of site for road paving, that would be two and three, pressure testing of newly installed lines.”
Outstanding works to be completed include the final road paving and the mobilisation site clean-up.
When asked why the exercise was taking so long by Opposition Senator Wade Mark, Beckles replied, “The works were a lot more complicated than expected…it would have required some engineering works as well as some studies just to ensure that we reduce the likelihood of something like that happening again.”
She also could not say if there would be any cost overruns for the project until all works were completed.
Last December, frustrated residents told the media that they were frustrated that the repairs to the collapsed road at Calistoga Drive were not yet completed.
