Church Car Kills Woman in Cocorite

A WOMAN was killed on Saturday night while crossing the Audrey Jeffers Highway in Cocorite.

The accident which took place around 7.30 pm involved an official vehicle belonging to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Port-of-Spain.

Police reports are that the Archdiocese vehicle was heading west when the woman ran across the road near the Cocorite Fish Market.

The woman is yet to be identified and St James police are continuing investigations.

In a response on Facebook on Monday, the Archdiocese expressed condolences to the woman’s family and pledged support in the matter.

The Archdiocese stated, “The Roman Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Port of Spain is offering condolences to the family, and praying for the repose of the soul of the woman who died in a vehicular accident on the Audrey Jeffers Highway, Cocorite on the evening of Saturday, February 12, 2022.

“The vehicle involved in the accident is owned by the Archdiocese, but contrary to a media report, the Archbishop does not have a driver, nor was he involved in this tragic accident. The Church continues to cooperate with the investigation in this matter.”
