PREGNANT women who would have received a first dose of the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine before pregnancy will be able to get two doses of the Pfizer vaccine during pregnancy.

This was stated by the Ministry of Health on Monday in an updated release regarding pregnant women and Covid-19 vaccination on Monday.

The ministry stated, “If a pregnant woman received a first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine before pregnancy, she will be given two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine during pregnancy, once she is in her second or third trimester of pregnancy. She will be considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. A second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine will not be required upon completion of the pregnancy.”

The ministry also stated that the previous guidance for a woman who received a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine before pregnancy remained unchanged, that she was eligible for a single dose of the Pfizer vaccine as her second dose, once she was in her second and third trimester of pregnancy, and will be considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the second vaccine dose.

“As scientific data evolves, this advice may change,” the ministry stated.
