Boy Among Record 31 Covid-19 Deaths

A RECORD 31 deaths, including a boy, related to Covid-19 is reported on Thursday.

This is the highest number of daily deaths reported since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020 in Trinidad and Tobago.

The previous highest was on Saturday when 28 people passed away including a boy too. It means that 344 deaths for the month of November have been reported. June recorded 352 Covid-19 related deaths, the deadliest month of the year thus far.

The Ministry of Health in its latest Covid-19 update (#919) on Thursday also reported 624 new positive cases taking from samples during the period November 21 to November 24.

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said on Wednesday that four children have passed away since the pandemic started and that 14 babies under one-year-old were Covid-19 positive in the past three months.

The ministry stated that the 31 deaths included:

  • 10 elderly men;
  • 9 elderly women;
  • 6 middle-aged men;
  • 5 middle-aged women; and
  • 1 male child.

It stated that 19 of the people who died had multiple comorbidities including diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, Parkinson disease, kidney disease, lung disease, cancer and a history of strokes.

It stated that seven had only one comorbidity and five had no known pre-existing condition.

Percentage of patients in the parallel healthcare system who are not fully vaccinated: 90.9% 5,726 out of 6,302 based on data from July 22, 2021 to November 10, 2021.
