HEALTH MINISTER Terrence Deyalsingh says he will help fund a legal challenge to stop nightly parties in Valsayn close to where he lives.

This after residents have complained about an apartment complex in Mayfield Avenue where zesser parties have blasted loud music during the wee hours of the morning.

Deyalsingh was asked about the issue on Wednesday at the Ministry of Health Covid-19 media conference by AZPNews.com.

He said he has facilitated meetings with the residents and then police commissioner Gary Griffith, the inspector of the St Joseph Police Station and officers of the North Eastern Division as well as speaking to Superintendent Roger Alexander and Deputy Police Commissioner McDonald Jacob.

Deyalsingh said, “I have done everything and more as MP for the area. The owner of the property thumps his nose at authority.”

He said, “I have even suggested to the homeowners that we take legal action and I am prepared to help financially with taking legal action.”

Residents told AZPNews.com that the police were concerned whether they had any authority to charge people who were on private property under the public health Covid-19 regulations.

Contacted for comment, Jacob admitted that he failed to contact Deyalsingh to inform him police had stepped up patrols near to the place on the weekends.

He said in June, police charged eight people for breaching Covid-19 regulations and in July five people were charged for the possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Jacob said police have also issued four search warrants at the location.

He said officers were also briefed on how to approach the situation as he admitted they were concerned about whether they could act under the current regulations.
