PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley says he is sick and fed up of Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s ranting and raving behaviour and especially as a woman, she should have more respect for the first female President of Trinidad and Tobago.
Dr Rowley was speaking at a People’s National Movement (PNM) meeting in La Horquetta on Saturday night.
The Prime Minister said he was waiting for the Opposition’ motion that was filed by Persad-Bissessar to have President Paula-Mae Weekes removed from the country’s highest office.
He told supporters, “I waiting for them to come to the Parliament with that foolishness. And all the women in this country must wait to find out from Kamla Persad-Bissessar why she so disrespectful to the President of Trinidad and Tobago who is also a woman. All of you must ask that question.
It was a case of if some-one could not get you, they could attempt to destroy you, Dr Rowley said.
He added that it would have benefitted citizens much more if the Opposition assisted in dealing with some of the issues especially during this difficult pandemic period instead of trying to jeopardise everything the Government was working towards.
Since the Opposition had no respect for the people of Trinidad and Tobago, the Prime Minister said he had no respect for them.
“ I have never met a more disgraceful bunch of people in or out of the Parliament that I have no respect for because they have no love and no respect for the people of Trinidad and Tobago,” he declared.
Last week, the Opposition called for the immediate resignation of Weekes stating that she had compromised her role as President in dealing with the Police Service Commission (PolSC) matter including not submitting a merit list as required by law in the Parliament.
On Sunday, President Weekes in an unprecedented statement that appeared as advertisements in the Sunday newspapers, stated that she has no misbehaved in public office as she sought to explain her role in the entire matter.
President Weekes said, “I certainly did not willfully violate any provision of the Constitution nor have I behaved in a way that could lead one reasonably to conclude that I have brought the OTP into hatred, ridicule or contempt or endangered the security of the State.”
