IT may be a little while longer before the country gets another Commissioner of Police as the High Court has granted an injunction to an applicant not selected for the interview process.

This follows legal action against the Police Service Commission (PSC) over its handling of the recruitment process by Snr Supt Anand Ramesar, former head of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Social and Welfare Association.

Ramesar who had applied for the position that was held by former CoP Gary Griffth up until August 17 was not selected for the interview stage of the process.

During a virtual court hearing on Friday, Justice Nadia Kangaloo,  granted an interim injunction to Ramesar, that will remain in effect until at least October 24.

Attorneys Richard Clarke-Wills, Kiel Taklalsingh and Chelsea John represented Ramesar, while senior counsel Russell Martineau represented the PSC.

Ramesar’s substantive claim against the PSC will be heard  before Justice Joan Charles who  will then determine if the  interim injunction should  be extended or lifted.

Deputy Police Commissioner McDonald Jacob is currently acting  as Police Commissioner until a selection is made.
