ALTHOUGH the system poses no direct threat Trinidad and Tobago, the country remains under an adverse weather alert in light of inclement weather.

In an 6am update, TTMS meteorologist Stefan Dickson said, “The area of disturbed weather which was upgraded to Potential Tropical Cyclone was located at approximately 110km southwest of Guadeloupe and is moving away from the Lesser Antilles.”

A Potential Tropical Cyclone means that the system is not yet a tropical cyclone, but it poses a threat of bringing tropical cyclone conditions to land areas within 48 hours.

The MET Office stated the system was centred near 15.7N 62.2W and is moving towards the west-northwest near 28 km/hr.

“Current analyses suggest that on its projected track, the system is forecast to pass near or over the U.S Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico later today and tonight.”

The following is a summary of Tropical Storm Watches in effect for portions of the Lesser Antilles:

  •  Martinique and Guadeloupe
  • Dominica
  • Saba and St Eustatius

A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area within 48 hours.

TTMS stated, “At this time, the system poses no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago or Grenada and its dependencies.”

In addition, this the last update that will be issued on Potential Tropical Cyclone.
