NEW members of the Protective Services Compensation Committee (PSCC) have been appointed.
On Monday, the new committee received their instruments of appointment from National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds.
The brief presentation ceremony took place at the Ministry of National Security head office in Port- of-Spain.
The new members are: Chairman John Health, Secretary Cedric Neptune and members Dr Wayne Ramgoolam, Dr Keith Clifford and Kern Jackson, the ministry stated in a press release on Tuesday.
The PSCC was established in 1997 to provide for the payment of compensation in respect of the officers of the protective services including the police, fire and prisons service who suffer injury or die in circumstances arising out of and in the course of employment with the State.
At the ceremony, Hinds spoke about the importance of the committee’s role and he thanked all members for accepting the call to provide their service.
The committee must comprise of two attorneys as chairman and secretary and three other members, two of whom should be medical practitioners – one with at least four years’ experience in the field of occupational health and safety and the other with at least seven years as a medical practitioner. The third member is required to have at least three years’ experience in the business of accident and health claims.
Members of the committee are appointed by the President by instrument, in writing, for a period of three years and on such terms and conditions as the President may determine.
