THE Meteorological Service of Trinidad and Tobago (TTMS) says to expect a period of heavy rainfall over the next 30 hours, due to feeder bands emerging from Tropical Storm Elsa.
TTMS stated that due to the passing system, many parts of the country have been experiencing consistent and heavy rainfall from last night.
In its 5am update, the TTMS sated, “Tropical Storm Elsa was located approximately 110 km east-southeast of Barbados, centred near 12.7N 58.6W and moving towards the west-northwest near 44 km/hr. Maximum sustained winds are 95 km/hr with higher gusts.”
It noted that the feeder bands will produce periods of rain/showers and isolated thunderstorm activity with possible gusty winds over T&T. Seas are expected to be agitated during this period, especially near Tobago.
Elsa still poses no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago, however, other territories including Barbados, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia, Martinique, the south coast of the Dominican Republic and Haiti have Tropical Storm Warnings, the release noted.
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Grenada and its dependencies, Jamaica, Saba and Sint Eustatius.
Another update will be issued at 12 noon.
