ST LUCIA – THE St Lucia Zouks are back in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) replacing the St Lucia Stars whose owners have been removed after a fallout with the management of the CPL.

Last week the CPL terminated its contract with Royal Sports LLC which operated the St Lucia Starts franchise in the CPL since 2016.

On its website www.cplt20.com, the CPL announced that the Zouks will replace the Stars but did not give any more details about what caused the termination. Royals Sports have promised to fight the matter legally.

CPL said, “The St Lucia Zouks will replace the St Lucia Stars for the 2019 CPL season following the recent termination of the participation agreement with the company operating the Stars franchise.

“The Zouks will be playing matches in St Lucia and across the Caribbean in this year’s CPL which takes place from September 4 to October 12.

The Zouks was the name of the St Lucia franchise when it was founded in 2013 and it still resonates with cricket fans around the world.

“St Lucia is one of four islands in the Caribbean known for its zouk music, making it the perfect name for the St Lucian team.

“The logo is a colourful mixture of blues and yellows with a flame symbol that is derived from the national coat of arms, representing a desire to win.”

The Zouks will be playing ten games in the CPL 2019:

  • September 5 – Guyana Amazon Warriors in Guyana, 6 p.m.
  • September 8 – Knight Riders in Trinidad, 12 noon
  • September 12 – Tallawahs in Jamaica, 7 p.m.
  • September 17- Patriots in St Kitts, 6 p.m.
