I had predicted a draw in this game and I was correct. It just ended up 2-2 in what has to be the most exciting game so far in the Copa.
Venezuela came from behind twice to earn a well-deserved draw. The Venezuelans are the most improved team in the tournament so far and are growing in confidence with each game.
Venezuela 2 vs Ecuador 2
20/06/21
Ecuador dominated large parts of the game but their defence need some work. Venezuela with only three shots on target scored two of them out of the total of nine. Ecuador with 69% of the possession, 19 shots at goal with seven on target, still had to share the points.
This was by far the most exciting game of the Copa and hopefully we have more of them – because most of the Copa games had too many boring sessions of paly.
Columbia 1 vs Peru 2
20/06/21
Estadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico
In an upset, Peru overcame Columbia 2-1. Columbia had the better of the possession with 59% and 12 shots at goal but only four on target compared to Peru’s 11 shots with three on target and two goals.
Pena in the 17th put Peru ahead and Borja for Columbia equalising in the 53rd. In the 64th Mina scored the winner for Peru. Columbia may now be ruing the fact they left out their best player James Rodriquez out of the tournament.
Monday’s games
Copa heavy weight clash
Uruguay vs Chile
21/06/21 5pm
Predicted score 2-2
Arena Pantanal
I have high hopes for this game because Uruguay will want a win after their opening loss to Argentina and Chile will want to continue their unbeaten run in the tournament. Suarez and Cavani had a poor game in the opener and will want to do much better.
Argentina vs Paraguay
21/06/21 8pm
Predicted score 3-0 Argentina
Estadio Nacional de Brasilia
Argentina will want to continue their winning ways and more so stamp their authority on the tournament with a big win. It is time they turn up the heat and score several goals in a game to ensure an effective victory.
