THE Ministry of Health is reporting six more people with the Brazilian variant (P1) of the Covid-19 virus in Trinidad and Tobago.
This means that the P1 variant has been detected in 15 people who are Covid-19 positive in T&T.
The ministry stated that the six latest cases were:
- A non-national in Nariva/Mayaro who was the primary contact of another confirmed P1 variant case; and
- Five nationals of St George West with of them being the primary contact of another confirmed P1 variant case.
All contact tracing and isolation procedures are in progress and are being managed by the relevant county medical officer of health with the aim of reducing the spread of this variant of concern, the ministry stated in a release on Friday night.
The ministry stated, “It is important to note that the cases have been identified in various geographical locations in T&T.”
Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh has said that the first case of the variant in T&T was found in a Venezuelan migrant.
