CLOSE to 100 taxi providers have already volunteered their information to the Greater Tunapuna Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GTCIC).

This new project comes in the wake a number of acts of violence against women in Trinidad and Tobago.

In a release on Friday, the GTCIC stated that it has been working closely with the Tunapuna Police Station Community Council (TPSCC) launching a business watch group (BWC) as part of this collaboration.

The BWC has linked the businesses in Tunapuna on the Eastern Main Road with the Tunapuna Police Station and will be expanding to include as far west as St Joseph and east towards D’abadie, the release stated.

It noted that several neighbourhood watch groups have also been created during this period.

The release stated, “As of last year, after the murder of Ashanti Riley, the GTCIC and TPSCC held discussions to obtain information from drivers who transport the public.

“The plan was executed this week and close to 100 drivers have already volunteered their information.”
