A 61-year-old man has been fined $1,000 for wasting police time.
Junior Rowley, 61, was charged by officers of the Tunapuna Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday for wasteful employment of the police.
He made a report on January 18, 2021 to the Tunapuna Police Station that he met Renaldo John at Republic Bank, Tunapuna, and handed him $TT158,000. He said John promised to exchange the money for US dollars.
Rowley told police that John entered the bank to conduct the transaction and he never saw John again.
PC Williams conducted investigations, reviewed statements and CCTV footage and interviewed Rowley.
He subsequently charged Rowley for wasteful employment of the police.
On Monday Rowley pleaded guilty and was fined $1,000 at the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court.
