AS the first school term for 2020/2021 came to an end on Friday, Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly is encouraging all involved in the education sector to be safe and smart during the Christmas season to ensure possible in-class sessions next term.

The Minister in a video address to the nation stated there were many challenges with the switch to complete virtual learning but said she was grateful for the overwhelming support from corporate citizens who donated electronic devices, teachers who underwent further training to facilitate online learning and parents who had to step into the role of teachers.

She said, “Be smart for a term two start. Let us be responsible. Let us enjoy our Christmas season, but always keep with us the fact that if we do it responsibly, if we are smart, then our children can return to school in term two of 2020/2021. We need our students to go to school. Some of our students need that face-to-face interaction.”

“We have students doing exams. All of our SEA (Secondary Entrance Assessment) students, our Forms Four and Five students, our Form Six students. For them let us be responsible. For them let us remember the difficulty of term one and let’s try to make it better in term two,” Gadsby-Dolly said.

The Minister said, “I thank you all of our stakeholders for what you have done in term one. The resilience you have shown, how well you have been able to adapt and I look forward to a term two that gives our student a fighting chance.”
