Jean De La Valette Turns Back

DESPITE sailing from Scarborough, the Jean De La Valette had to turn back when it left Port-of-Spain on its return trip on Thursday.

A statement from the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO) stated that the vessel had to suspend its service as it approached the north coast of Trinidad.

NIDCO said the vessel was stopped to allow preliminary checks after an alert was seen on the bridge.

The Master of the vessel, in the interest of safety and time, took a decision to cancel the return sailing and return the vessel to the Port of Port-of-Spain, the release stated.

Passengers and vehicles were to be accommodated in the sailing of the T&T Spirit on Thursday evening.

In its first commercial trip, it had successfully sailed from Scarborough to Port-of-Spain earlier in the day with 723 passenger on board in just under three hours.

The Jean De La Valette has been leased from for one year at cost of 34,500 Eu­ros or TT$263,580 per day.
