9 Held, High-Powered Rifle Seized

FOUR firearms, including a high-powered rifle and quantities of ammunition and narcotics were seized by police over the weekend.

Nine suspects were held during coordinated anti-crime exercises conducted across the country in five divisions between Friday and Sunday, a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Sunday stated.

On Friday, a 24-year-old Arima man was arrested for possession of one Smith and Wesson pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition, in the Northern Division and a Barataria man was arrested for possession of one Taurus pistol loaded with a magazine containing 10 rounds of ammunition, in the North Eastern Division.

In the Southern Division, four men all of Gasparillo, ages 18 to 21, for possession of one Glock pistol magazine containing four rounds of ammunition on Saturday.

Also on Saturday in the same division, a 24-year-old man of La Romaine was also held for possession of three rounds of ammunition and a 37-year-old Palmiste man was held for possession of 22 marijuana plants.

In the South Western Division on Saturday, a Guapo man was arrested for possession of six packets of marijuana weighing approximately 3.1 kilogrammes. 

During the period, officers also discovered one AR-15 rifle, fitted with an empty magazine, in the Northern Division on Friday and two extended pistol magazines and quantities of ammunition and marijuana, in the North Eastern Division, by officers of the Central Division. 

The TTPS stated that investigations were ongoing into all these matters and thanked all citizens who continue to provide them with useful information resulting in the successful arrest of suspects and the seizure of illegal guns and drugs.
