7 Fishermen Missing After Pirate Attack in Gulf of Paria

SEVEN fishermen have gone missing after being robbed by pirates in the Gulf of Paria near to Carli Bay in Central Trinidad.

Reports indicate that 18 men went fishing with two boats from Carli Bay and four from Orange Valley on Monday night.

They were boarded by pirates who stole five of the boats and the engines and ordered the men to jump overboard, police said. One boat was left by the pirates but the engine was stolen.

Eleven of the men were rescued by a passing vessel while seven are still missing.

Members of the Coast Guard are leading the search for the missing men.

Police said five engines have been recovered and one man is in custody.
