SINCE the booster shot programme began for Covid-19, the highest number of persons accepting booster shots were recorded on Tuesday.
This is according to Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh who spoke on Wednesday at the Ministry of Health’s virtual media conference.
Deyalsingh said, “We did 2,760 shots yesterday (Tuesday) so our total population who were eligible to be boosted in this first month of the booster programme now stands at 69,739.”
The minister said from next Wednesday, the second phase of the booster programme will be rolled out.
The Ministry of Health is administering booster shots at least six months from the date of the final shot of a Covid-19 vaccine to be considered fully vaccinated.
The first phase ends on January 7.
Deyalsingh also spoke about the regular vaccination numbers stating that there were a total of 666,432 fully vaccinated persons which was 47.6% of the population of Trinidad and Tobago.
He also said on Tuesday, 1,411 of first doses were administered as well as 331 of the one shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine, totalling 1,742.
Deyalsingh said “We have not seen this level of activity since around October 18 which was about two months ago we had this level of vaccination activity for both first shots and Johnson and Johnson. It is a good sign but bear in mind, it was an improvement over a low base.”
The minister is hoping that the vaccination numbers will increase soon.
And Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram said there was no change regarding the PCR test requirement for those entering Trinidad and Tobago and that such testing remains available in the US for those travelling from that country.
