6 More Recounts Completed, 1 Called Off

THE recount of six more electoral districts has been completed and one recount called off.

The United National Congress (UNC) candidate for the electoral district of Bagatelle/Blue Basin, Nalini Goindoo called off her request into a recount of the votes cast in that electoral district in the Local Government Elections on Monday.

That electoral district was won by the People’s National Movement (PNM) candidate, Alina Zennie Renn by a margin of 220 votes, the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) stated in a media release on Wednesday.

The recounts in the electoral districts of Arima West/O’Meara, Auzonville/Tunapuna, Blanchisseuse/Santa Rosa, Five Rivers, Sangre Grande Northeast and San Juan East are also completed. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100085644142766

Although there were changes made in some electoral districts, it was not enough to change the overall results initially obtained.

Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP) – 78

UNC – 603**

**The UNC candidate Ryan Diaz lost one  vote

*The UNC candidate Meguel Keran Ravi Latchman received one  more vote

Blanchisseuse/Santa Rosa

Kathleen Washington (Independent Candidate) – 55

No changes to any of the votes received

Five Rivers

PNM – 2116*

UNC – 2060**

*The PNM candidate Desirée De Freitas received four  more votes

**The UNC candidate Jamie Hosein lost three  votes

**The UNC candidate Darren Timothy lost seven votes

The EBC added that in the electoral district of Lengua/Indian Walk, a count of the ballot boxes has revealed a tie, with both the PNM and UNC candidates securing 1428 votes each – a loss of two votes for the PNM’s candidate and a gain of three  votes for the UNC’s candidate. 

The vote count for the PEP’s candidate remained the same at 87 votes and the recount of the poll card boxes in that electoral district was still ongoing.

On Tuesday, Chief Election Officer Fern Narcis-Scope received requests for recounts in 14 electoral districts, which were contested in the Local Government Elections on Monday, the requests came from both the PNM and the UNC.

The recounts of three districts first completed were Cocoyea/Tarouba which was won by the PNM, Marabella South/Vistabella retained by the UNC and Mayaro North, which the PNM gained.
