FIVE men have been arrested, and drugs seized, during anti-crime operations across several divisions on Monday.
A release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated that around 11.20 pm on Monday, officers from the Tobago Divisional Task Force – Area East, Roxborough Police Station, Charlotteville Police Station, the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment (TTR), and the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) conducted an intelligence-led operation.
During the operation, the team visited a residence located at Zion Hill, Belle-Garden, Tobago, approximately 270 metres from a primary school, to search for dangerous drugs.
Upon arrival, officers discovered 13 fully grown cannabis plants and 20 seedlings, which were planted in growing bags.
Styrofoam cups, and buckets on the eastern side of the property. Further investigation revealed three uprooted cannabis plants drying on a clothesline inside the property.
A 58-year-old male occupant of the house was arrested in connection with the find and is expected to be charged with Possession of Cannabis for Trafficking and Cultivation of Cannabis. The total weight of the seized drugs was 570 grammes.
In addition, between 1 pm and 11 pm yesterday, officers from the Northern and North Central Divisions proceeded to Samaroo Village, Arima, where they discovered four tampered panel van motor vehicles and two tampered red-band maxi-taxis at an auto-repair business. Two male suspects, aged 43 and 46, were arrested in connection with the discovery.
The officers continued their operations and proceeded to Eastern Main Road, Tunapuna, where they arrested two men, aged 34 and 38, for possession of cannabis.
Investigations are ongoing.
