ANOTHER police officer has died after contracting Covid-19.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is mourning the passing of PC Saied Ali who passed away on Wednesday.
PC Ali, 35, was expected to be buried today (Thursday) under Muslim rites.
He was enlisted into TTPS on July 15, 2019, and was last attached to the Financial Investigations Branch.
PC Ali left behind his mother and his two brothers to mourn.
Snr Supt Wendell Lucas, of the Financial Investigations Branch, described PC Ali, who was also nicknamed “Central” as pleasant, dedicated and committed. Snr Supt Lucas stated PC Ali received an award last month during the divisions’ award ceremony for his commitment to duty.
“He was a consummate professional whose passing is definitely a blow to the branch and moreover the organisation.”
Lucas encouraged other officers to get vaccinated, not only for themselves but for their family, friends and colleagues.
PC Ali is the fourth police officer to die after contracting Covid-19 since 2022 began. Others included PC Anthony Mohammed who passed away on Monday, WPC Naomi Subero and PC Shelford Kinsale both who died on Tuesday.
Acting Commissioner of Police, Mc Donald Jacob, members of the executive, family, friends and colleagues have shared their deepest condolences.
