FOUR Mayaro fishermen have gone missing and the search is on to have them rescued.
The fishermen, of Grand Lagoon, are captain Heeralal Kublal, Rishi Kemchan and two others known only as George and Tallman.
Head of the Troppers Search and Rescue of Mayaro Wesley Mohammed said on Sunday that the boat Benom 2 TFN 5906 was found in the Cedros area and there was no one on board. He said it was a mother boat and they were on the first voyage with the vessel.
He said there was nothing on board and believed that the men, who had plenty of lifejackets, were still alive.
Mayaro MP Rushton Paray issued a release stating that he has been in communication with the Mayaro Police, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, and the Hunters Search and Rescue Team.
He said, “An extensive search operation is active at this time. He is calling on all private fishing vessels in the area to assist in the search by contacting Mr Vallance Rambarat of the Hunters Search and Rescue.
“MP Paray continues to offer his prayers for the safe return of the four fishermen. The MP is confident that the combined efforts of the relevant authorities and the fishing community will result in a positive outcome.
“The MP is committed to doing everything in his power to support the families of the missing fishermen and to ensure that the search operation continues until all possible avenues have been explored.”
The fishermen left theĀ Guayaguayare Fishing Depot at 2 pm last Tuesday to fish. They were expected to return on Thursday.
