FOUR men in their twenties who allegedly robbed two supermarkets of cash, cellular phones and alcohol have been arrested by police.
The arrests took place on Monday in Couva by officers of the Central Division Task Force (CDTF), a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated.
Reports are that the proprietor of a supermarket in Couva was conducting sales on the premises around 1 pm when two men entered, one armed with a gun.
The men announced a hold-up and robbed the owner and three other victims of quantities of cash, cellular phones and alcohol and escaped.
Around 1.38 pm, the owner of another supermarket, also in was at his business place when two men, one armed with a gun, entered and announced a robbery.
The bandits also robbed the owner and one other victim of a quantity of cash, cellular phones and alcohol before escaping in a white Mitsubishi Lancer motor vehicle.
Reports of the incidents were made and officers of the CDTF responded and intercepted the Mitsubishi Lancer motor vehicle with four occupants along Orange Field Road in Carapichaima.
A search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding several items and a quantity of cash believed to be the cash stolen.
Officers also found one black pistol loaded with a magazine containing 11 rounds of ammunition in the vehicle.
The suspects, ages 20 to 23 years old, of Chaguanas and Chase Village, were arrested in connection with the incidents and the find.
Investigations are ongoing.
