Three men have been arrested following a car chase and shootout with police in Tunapuna.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated that the incident took place on Friday after mobile patrol officers got information that individuals travelling in a silver Mazda 323 vehicle, had guns.
The car was spotted along Bharath Street and a chase ensued before it crashed at Cumberbatch Lane.
The TTPS stated that the occupants, of Monte Grande, shot at officers, who in keeping with the TTPS’s Use of Force Policy, returned fire.
The 26-year-old driver of the crashed vehicle was shot on his right ankle and taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he was treated and remains hospitalised.
The other two occupants, aged 18 and 20, were detained.
Police searched the car and found one silver revolver with four rounds of spent ammunition and one round of live ammunition.
