18 Parties Contesting August 10 General Elections

EIGHTEEN political parties have fielded candidates for the August 10 general election.

The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) confirmed that a total of 150 persons filed nomination papers on Friday.

This includes five independent candidates for the following constituencies:

1. Chaguanas East – 1
2. Moruga/Tableland – 1
3. St Joseph – 1
4. Tobago West – 2

This is a listing of all political parties and the number of their candidates contesting the upcoming polls:

1. People’s National Movement – 41
2. United National Congress – 39
3. Progressive Empowerment Party – 28
4. Trinidad Humanity Campaign – 7
5. New National Vision – 6
6. Movement for Social Justice – 5
7. Congress of the People – 4
8. Movement for National Development – 3
9. Progressive Democratic Patriots – 2
10. National Coalition for Transformation – 2
11. Progressive Party – 1
12. Independent Liberal Party – 1
13. Democratic Party of Trinidad and Tobago – 1
14. Nationwide Organization of We the People – 1
15. Unrepresented Peoples Party – 1
16. Trinidad and Tobago Democratic Front – 1
17. National Party – 1
18. One Tobago Voice – 1

The EBC stated that the candidates will be listed on its website by Wednesday and published in the newspapers on the same day or by Thursday.
