TOBAGO is expecting to roll-out its second dose of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine from Monday.
During the virtual media briefing by the Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development, on Friday, acting General Manager of Primary Care at the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) Dr Roxanne Mitchell announced that the second dose of the vaccines will begin at 9am.
She said, “Only those who received vaccines from the 6th of April to the 12th of April 2021, will receive a text confirmation which will include the date, time and venue for the vaccine rollout.”
Dr Mitchell also said that Sinopharm appointments for the second dose of that vaccine have not yet started.
To date 5,814 persons have been vaccinated in Tobago with 5,703 receiving the first dose and 111 receiving the second dose vaccination, Dr Mitchell said.
She said that this week, 829 persons were vaccinated.
Dr Mitchell said Tobagonians were more receptive of the Sinopharm vaccine than the AstraZeneca which was first administered.
“A number of persons who have been vaccinated fall in the category of health care workers, social services and persons over 60 with comorbidities,” Dr Mitchell said.
She asked people with appointments for vaccinations at the health centers to 30 minutes before their appointments to ensure that health protocols regarding gatherings were adhered to.
