TWENTY-FIVE thousand seedlings will be distributed freely to the public on the Corpus Christi holiday.
The distribution is being done in collaboration with the Greater Tunapuna Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GTCIC), Agricultural Supplies and Seedlings Company (ASASCo) and the Sure Foundation.
Distribution will take place on Thursday from 8 am at Trincity Mall in front of Tru Valu Supermarket.
The chamber in a press release stated that the seedlings to be distributed include: patchoi, bodi, celery, chive, corn, string beans, lettuce, cauliflower, parsley, chadon beni, cabbage and bhaigan.
Corpus Christi has traditionally been a day to plant crops for farmers.
To complement, the seedling distribution drive (ASASCo) will also be selling fertilisers, insecticides, spray bottles, seeds and fruit trees.
Members of the public are invited to arrive early to collect free seedlings.
“The distribution of seedlings is part of Sure Foundation’s Decarbonisation Strategy to boost national food production and also help reduce carbon footprint,” the Chamber stated.
To date, Sure Foundation has distributed over 1.6 million seedlings.
