TWO days after there was an appeal to boat owners by police not to transport Venezuelans illegally to Trinidad, police detained 22 Venezuelan nationals in Palo Seco.
They were detained by officers of South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF) on Sunday.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated that officers received information that a boat load of Venezuelan nationals was seen walking from the Palo Seco Beach and were heading to the James Street area. The officers acted on the information and checks were made which led to the arrest of the 22 illegal immigrants.
The detainees were taken to the Siparia Health Facility where they were medically examined, photographed at the Siparia Police Headquarters and after which they were taken to the Erin Police Station.
They are due to be conveyed to the Coast Guard Base at the Heliport in Chaguaramas.
The exercise was coordinated by Snr Supt John, Asp Ramdeen, Insp Simon and supervised by Sgt Breedy and Cpl Prince.
