TWO hundred and eleven unvaccinated people have succumbed to Covid-19 in one month.
This was revealed by the Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh at the Ministry of Health virtual presser on Monday.
Deyalsingh gave a breakdown of the vaccination from July 15 to August 15.
He said between this period, there were 222,882 first shots administered and 173, 753 second doses.
The minister said, “Over that period of roughly one month we administered 396,635 shots.”
He said within the same period, there were 211 deaths recorded.
Deyalsingh added that, “In the 396,635 shots, there were no reported adverse effects, some would have gotten side effects such as fever, soreness and tiredness.
“No one who has fully vaccinated has died from Covid,” he said.
Deyalsingh said, “As of yesterday (Sunday), 1,579 first doses were administered which bought the total first dose count to 454,085 doses.”
He added that this roughly represented 32% of the general population of 1.4 million.
The minister added that 13,819 second doses were also administered on Sunday which bought the total second doses to 320, 425.
He highlighted that 320.425 represented 23% of the population.
Deyalsingh thanked the 320,000 fully vaccinated persons. “You all are our heroes as you now stand less than 1% chance of contracting severe Covid, of dying from Covid and from being in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to Covid.”
“Vaccination gives persons 99% protection against either being a mortality statistic, developing severe disease, going to a hospital and needing ICU care.”
