LALCHAN Baldeo, 19, aka ‘Nigel,’ and Vishal Boodnath, 30, aka ‘Randy,’ both residents of Digity Trace, Barrackpore, have appeared virtually before Master Cazabon in the San Fernando First Court.
They are jointly charged with the January 11, 2024, murder of Kassie Rampersad.
They appeared in court on February 2, 2024, and the matter has been adjourned to February 29, 2024, a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated on Wednesday.
Kassie Rampersad, 49, aka ‘Piper,’ also of Digity Trace, Barrackpore, reportedly engaged in an altercation with two men at his home on January 11, 2024, resulting in fatal injuries. His decomposed body was discovered in the Oropouche River on January 24, 2024.
Superintendent Dhilpaul of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region Three, and a team of detectives supervised by ASP Steve Persad led the investigations.
Baldeo voluntarily surrendered to homicide detectives on January 28, while Boodnath was apprehended on January 30 in the Mayaro district by officers of the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department.
Both Baldeo and Boodnath were formally charged by Corporal Selwyn Griffith, also of HBI Region Three, on February 1st, 2024. The charges came following advice from Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal, on the same date.
