POLICE have fined 17 motorists along the Lady Young Road, Morvant, on Wednesday for speeding.
According to a release of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) between 10 a.m. and 12.30 p.m., officers of the North Eastern Division Traffic Unit (NEDTU) conducted a speed exercise along the Lady Young Road where they issued 17 fixed penalty notices to motorists for exceeding the speed limit of 50kph.
The 17 fixed penalty notices issued totalled $17,000, the release stated.
The exercise was spearheaded by acting Inspector Cooper, coordinated by Corporal Acres and supervised by acting Inspector Singh of the NEDTU.
The release stated that more than 70 % of the motorists fined were in excess of the speed limit by 20kph, with the highest speed recorded at 95kph.
It noted that the speed limit on the Lady Young Road was 5kph slower than the speed limit of the nation’s highways.
The release stated, “The NEDTU stresses its zero tolerance approach to speeding within the Division and are warning motorists that the Unit’s presence will remain actively felt.”
