THERE were more than 14,000 people who have already applied for Salary Relief Grant of the Ministry of Finance as at 12 noon on Friday.
This was revealed by Minister of Finance Colm Imbert who said that the majority were from the food and restaurant services sector.
He said the SRG application portal went online at 7am on Wednesday and by noon on Friday 72,840 people had visited the site.
Imbert said, “Even though 72,000 persons have visited our salary portal, only 14,000 persons have registered demonstrating an intention to go through and complete an application and of those 14,000, 2,850 have already submitted an application and about 12,000 are in the process of submitting their application.”
He said 6,538 who applied were from the food/restaurant services sector and 4,820 from retail outlets.
Imbert said to access the SRG, the applicant must be a national or a permanent resident of Trinidad and Tobago.
In response to a question from AZPNews.com he said, “So an economic migrant will not qualify for a SRG.
“Where the economic migrant can get help is through the money we are giving to the churches for food support.
“And that is the only place at this point in time that an economic migrant who is neither a national nor a resident can get assistance.
“You get it through the churches because he have not told the churches don’t give assistance too economic migrants. In fact they are encouraged to do so.”
