AT least 1,100 public sector workers are on their way to becoming fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
This was revealed by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh on Saturday as he gave updated vaccination figures regarding the public sector.
Speaking at the Ministry of Health’s virtual Covid-19 update, Deyalsingh said 1,109 persons accessed shots at the two areas that were designated for public sector workers only.
At the Southern Academy for Performing Arts (SAPA), two lines have been specifically reserved for public sector workers and also the Government’s Plaza at St Vincent Street, Port-of-Spain.
Deyalsingh said, “The numbers that we have tracked from Monday to yesterday at these two sites alone, tells us that 1,109 public servants have accessed these dedicated sites for public servants.”
He also said that persons can also access the vaccine at any of the 109 health centres and the other mass vaccination sites.
“The figure is probably more but this is what I am tracking at those two sites (designated for public servants),” Deyalsingh said.
The minister also said all the details regarding the vaccination policy that takes effect after January 15, will be revealed when the regulations are issued.
Deyalsingh said he continued to meet with Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi and the other members of the medical team to work out all the fine details regarding the public service vaccination policy that has been met with much opposition from unions, the Opposition and other activist groups.
However, Al –Rawi had maintained that the policy would be in effect and asked for suggestions for alternative health measures.
Deyalsingh who also said while he could not speak for the private sector regarding the suspension of policies that were previously implemented, continued to advocate for vaccination against Covid-19 in the public and private sector.
And he said the mental health of workers in both sectors, vaccinated or unvaccinated, were just as important and several agencies were providing psycho-social support for individuals.
