TEN poets have reached the final stage for a chance to win $50,000 at the First Citizens National Poetry Slam.

The grand final slam will be held at a venue to be announced as followers of the popular annual spoken word championship are being advised to prepare for the competition’s return to live performances on the big stage.

Bocas Lit Fest is the organiser for the event. In a joint press release, Bocas Lit Fest said audiences will wait no longer than October 9 for the finals.

The venue will be announced on the National Poetry Slam’s social media pages.

Two semi-final events were aired on national television on August 21 and 22 and each featured ten poets.

Bocas Lit Fest stated, “The poets commanded the spotlight on the nation’s television screens delivering a riveting combination of poetic mastery and emotive dramatisation of hard-hitting and provocative subjects. Steering audiences through topics ranging from social issues and institutional distresses to self-discovery, they dealt spectators sobering reality checks with pure confidence and grit.”

The ten finalists will vie for a chance at winning the grand prize of $50,000 and a shot at dethroning the 2021 Slam winner, Derron Sandy. Second and third places winners receive $20,000 and $10,000 respectively, courtesy First Citizens.
