A Trinidad-born doctor has become the longest serving female Member of Parliament in Canada.

Hedy Fry, who is from San Fernando has won nine consecutive elections dating back to 1993, according to the website www.vancouverisawesome.com.

The story said when Fry migrated to Canada she became a family physician who worked at the St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver for 20 years.

She is credited with being the only rookie to beat a sitting prime minister.

Fry’s son Pete has also been elected to the Vancouver council in 2018 under the Green Party banner, the story noted.
