THE Public Services Association (PSA) will not be assisting United National Congress (UNC) political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar to win the next general elections.

Persad-Bissessar made the call for all trade unions to join her to win the general elections, due next year, at a UNC meeting in Gasparillo on Tuesday.

On Friday, PSA’s president Watson Duke called a press conference to say his union would not be helping Persad-Bissessar.

Duke who is also the president of National Trade Union Centre stated that he could not speak for all trade unions.

He said, “All trade unions must speak for themselves on this point. But I want to say to her ‘thanks, but no thanks.’ We are not joining or supporting any political party. We need to have more than a token that we will protect you.”

Duke said, “We will not join you. Wheel and come again.”

He said Persad-Bissessar must first say where were the monies from negotiations between 2014 and 2015 when she was prime minister.

Duke added these negotiations have been foisted on the “wicked and incapable” PNM Government.

And Federation of Independent Trade Unions president Joseph Remy also declined Persad-Bissessar’ request, slamming her People’s Partnership government for betraying the labour movement, it has been reported.
