ST JOSEPH – PASTOR Glen Awong, the head of Transformed Life Ministry, is charged with three offences following a police operation at his home in October.

The charges were laid against him on Thursday night at the St Joseph Police Station where he surrendered on Monday. Police said they received information from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

On October 8, 2019, the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) conducted a sting operation at the ministry on the Eastern Main Road in Arocua and rescued 69 people. Some were naked and locked in cages. Police also seized handcuffs, batons and tasers.

Awong is charged with falsely imprisoning one of the 69 people and kidnapping and trafficking her brother. He is expected to appear before an Arima Magistrate on Friday.

Awong and his wife surrendered on Monday with their attorney Darren Mitchell but his wife was released without any charges being laid against her.

The ministry received approximately $7.4 million from the State between 2010 and 2015.

The last payment was dated August 6, 2015.
