CUMUTO – RESIDENTS of Cumuto are being told not to be alarmed by the sound of explosives on Tuesday November 5, 2019.
The Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force said it will be carrying out an exercise to destroy expired pyrotechnics and explosives on November 5, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Cumuto Barracks.
A release said the Defence Force will be providing assistance to an oil and gas company and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
It stated that the exercise will be carried out using high explosive charges.
As a result, there will be sounds and percussion effects of loud explosions in the surrounding communities of Cumuto and nearby areas.
The public is advised not to be alarmed and to keep livestock and pets secure as these sounds are similar to that heard during displays of fireworks.
The Defence Force and the TTPS apologised for any inconvenience caused but said the procedure was needed when dealing with the disposal of aged explosives.
The release stated that the explosions will be controlled with all necessary safety precautions.
