MORE than 10,000 healthcare workers have tested positive for Covid-19 in sub-Saharan Africa since the start of the pandemic.

BBC reported that this was revealed by the World Health Organization on Thursday.

It stated that this accounts for 10% of all medical personnel who have been infected around the world, even though Africa reported less infections than other countries.

Most of the affected are nurses, as they spend more time in wards when compared to other medical staff.

The WHO blamed the high rate of infections to a shortage of personal protective equipment.
