CRITICAL road safety issues were raised by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Eli Zakour in a meeting with Australian High Commissioner Sonya Koppe.
The minister welcomed the Australian diplomats at the ministry’s head office in Port of Spain on Wednesday, a release from the ministry stated.
Zakour was accompanied by senior officials of the ministry, while the High Commissioner was joined by Policy and Research Officer at the Australian High Commission Erin Hackshaw.

The ministry stated, “At the forefront of the discussions were critical issues surrounding road safety, with both parties recognising the importance of implementing effective strategies to safeguard all road users, reduce traffic accidents, and encourage responsible driving behaviour.
“The dialogue emphasised the importance of fostering a culture of compliance among motorists and pedestrians, supported by targeted public education and robust enforcement measures. The ministry continues to drive initiatives that build safer road networks and align with global best practices. “

The meeting also highlighted opportunities for deeper cooperation between the two countries, including the potential establishment of an Air Services agreement.
“Such an agreement would create new channels for trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange, while significantly strengthening global connectivity between the two nations,” the ministry stated.
The ministry also stated it remained committed to collaborating with international partners who share the vision of advancing Trinidad and Tobago’s transport and aviation sectors.
