PRIME Minister Stuart Young says that People’s National Movement (PNM) recent polling data indicates the United National Congress (UNC) is under pressure in several of its traditionally held constituencies.
Speaking at a campaign meeting held at the Moruga Government Primary School on Saturday night, Young referred to what was described as a “scientific poll” showing the UNC is “on the back foot” in constituencies such as San Juan/Barataria, Chaguanas East, Mayaro and Cumuto/Manzanilla. He did not reveal any statistics from the poll.
He said, “Our poll says the UNC is under pressure… in San Juan/Barataria, in Chaguanas East, in Mayaro, in Cumuto/Manzanilla… and some of the other seats that they hold.”

Young encourages PNM supporters to remain focused and ignore the propaganda being spread, claiming the party has momentum leading into the final week of campaigning.
“You’re seeing the youth saying, ‘We’re going to give them, meaning the PNM, a chance.’ They have faith and trust in us,” he added.
He also claimed that Moruga/Tableland was showing strong support for the PNM based on the same polling.
He said, “If it’s one thing you should know about me right now, is I could fight, and I will fight for Trinidad and Tobago.”
He took direct aim at the UNC, saying, “We will fight for Trinidad and Tobago without stealing from the Treasury like them.”
Young also said that, according to the PNM’s internal polling, the UNC was losing its hold on the San Fernando West constituency.
He said, “San Fernando West, they meltdown. Candidate crying… They want to give up in San Fernando West because Faris is putting a licking on them.”
Young also mocked Roger Alexander, the UNC’s candidate for Tunapuna, referencing a comment he allegedly made in a video about the purpose of a community centre, where he states, “You know what is a community centre, it means that it is a centre for the community.”
He said, “He sit down on a step, telling us a community centre is for community. What else it could be for? That is what you putting forward?”
The chairman of the PNM also raised concerns about racial rhetoric, accusing the UNC candidate for Sangre Grande, Wayne Sturge, of making inflammatory remarks at a recent rally.
According to him, “The candidate in Grande… went up on stage and said the prime minister is Chinese, run the Chinese out of town. Well partner, you have to come better than that.”
He said, “In Trinidad and Tobago, and in the PNM, they love the Chinese.”
